Echo - the heart of Gramo pumping information, money and other values
Echo is the technical system that allows Gramo to settle and distribute royalties individually to rights holders when, for example, radio stations use recorded music.
Are you being played on the radio? Then you can receive money from Gramo
One of Echo's most important tasks is to link the reports on what music has been used to Gramo's register of recordings and who owns the rights to each recording. This way, the money can be distributed and paid out correctly to all those who have rights to the recordings.
If Echo can't find a link, Gramo staff will find the right recording with the right rights holders. The next time this recording is used, Echo will be able to link automatically.
88 radio channels in 2022
In 2022, Echo received reports on music usage from 88 radio channels. That's almost a doubling in five years, from 45 channels in 2017.
Music use in shops, hotels, restaurants etc.
Until now, the money companies pay to Gramo for playing music in their shops, gyms, restaurants and the like has been distributed according to the reports from the radio stations. But many of the companies use other sources than radio to play music. So now we have upgraded Echo so that from summer 2022 we can pay out money based on the music played by different businesses. This will make the Gramo payment even more precise.
Connected to the rest of the world
Echo is also connected to the Repertoir Data Exchange (RDx), the Virtual Recording Database (VRDB), and the International Performers Database (IPD) where many countries now share information about recordings and rights holders. This enables us to correctly distribute and pay out royalties to foreign right holders in the countries with which we have agreements to exchange royalties.
