This song was played over 313 hours

The Norwegian song "The Ballet Girl" by Aden Foyer was played almost 6,000 times last year. This puts the Norwegian at the top of the list of most played Norwegian songs.

-"It's absolutely beyond belief that 'The Ballet Girl' is the most played Norwegian song on the radio. Totally unreal for me. I started this artist project without any expectation of response in Norway, so it's simply a dream come true," says Aden Foyer.

According to Gramo's recent statistics, his hit is the most played Norwegian song on the radio last year.

-"It's an honor to be among the most played artists, and I'm so incredibly grateful to all the radio stations that have played my music, all the listeners and not least the fans," says Foyer.

Most played in Norwegian

The most played song with Norwegian lyrics is "Danser videre i livet" by Hkeem and Makosir According to Gramo's statistics for 2023.

Overall, 40 percent of the music played on radio last year was Norwegian and P1, P3 and the regional channels played more than 50 percent Norwegian music throughout the year. On Radio Norge, 5.4 percent of the music played was Norwegian. This is a decrease of 0.2 percentage points from the previous year.

- "Aden Foyer's song has been played the most both in terms of time and number of times. "The Ballet Girl" became a super hit in 2023," says Rita H. Mamelund, Head of Communications at Gramo.

These are the top five Norwegian songs:

  1. "The Ballet Girl" with Aden Foyer - played for 313 hours and 31 minutes - 5768 times
  1. "Dancing on in life" with Hkeem and Makosir - played for 225 hours and 34 minutes - 5519 times
  1. "Floden" with Emma Steinbakken - played for 218 hours and 57 minutes - 3832 times
  1. "For Evig" with Chris Holsten - played 195 hours and 58 minutes - 3683 times
  1. "Queen of Kings" with Alessandra - played 181 hours and 41 minutes - 4621 times

This means that there are two men in first and second place for Norwegian songs played on the radio. Emma Steinbakken is the first woman on the list with a third place. This was also the case in 2022, but then with the song "Jeg Glemmer Deg Aldri".

In sixth place is Victoria Nadine with "Nerve", while "Alt du vil ha" with Isah & Maria Mena is in seventh place. Dagny with "Same Again for Love" and "Heartbreak in the Making" has both eighth and tenth place. Susanne Sundfør's "Alyosha (edit)" is in ninth place. There are thus six women in the top ten.

About the statistics

The statistics are based on reports for 2023 registered with Gramo up to April 2024, and include all radio playback of released recordings on the channels of NRK, P4 and Bauer Media. Music used in local radio stations, shops, cafés, gyms and the like is not included in these statistics, but is included in the distribution of Gramo money to the rights holders.

New and robust rights management system in 2026

Last year, Gramo's board decided to introduce a new rights management system (the system that calculates and pays out remuneration to our rights holders), thereby phasing out the proprietary system that has been in operation since 2015. The goal is lower annual costs, increased standardization and strengthened international collaboration in Gramo's rights management.

The sound of Christmas on the radio

Christmas is the sound of music – from classic tunes that immediately evoke Christmas associations, to songs that aren’t really about Christmas but have become constant companions in December. Some songs paint pictures of snow, stars and the holiday season, while others simply have that vibe that makes them favorites year after year.
